3 Ways to Make Art this Summer
Get involved and have fun this summer!
Interested in art and design? Want opportunities to develop your portfolio? Remember, a portfolio is often a necessary component for admission to art and design post-secondary institutions. Your portfolio is essentially a collection of work that represents your individual creative and technical experiences and accomplishments and should be a visual representation of who you are. Learn about some ways you can add to your portfolio below.
1. Attend a Summer Workshop
At OCAD University, we provide Summer Workshops which are a week-long studio experiences dedicated to emerging artists and designers ages 15 to 19 who are considering a post-secondary education in a creative industry or field. For each day, students will be in a different workshop that is tailored to help them expand both their skills and knowledge on contemporary art and design practice by taking a hands-on, multi-disciplinary approach to the studio experience.
2. Explore the World Around You
Be sure to diversify your portfolio by adding pieces from outside the classroom. Visit a park, gallery, museum or anything you find interesting and observe the world around you. Sketch, paint, draw, film, take notes, whatever you want! Simply use your imagination to create new work.
3. Go for a Campus Tour
Most post-secondary institutions have campus tours during the summer time and it’d be a great opportunity for you to get better insight into student life, courses and more. Use this opportunity to also check out the public spaces in and around the campus and while you’re at it, be sure to also visit the Admissions & Recruitment Office if you have any questions regarding admissions requirements.
